If you're looking to spend a little money, the HD6XX and Kali LP-8s sound incredibly similar, so there's not a big jump when you go from one to the other. In fact, those are the headphones I "trust" although I have no problem if I use the others with Reference. It's minimal for the HD6XX, though, so I don't use it for those headphones. The difference is dramatic for both the MDR-7506 and DT-990s. When I enable Reference it makes all of these headphones sound so similar it doesn't really matter which I use.

If you can stretch it I second the recommendation for HD600. if your two sources have the same kind of EQ curve and sound signature you really negate the benefit of having multiple sources Especially since the purpose of A/B with different sources is to point out things you wouldn't hear with one source. I would consider MDR-V6 -> MDR-7506 as a "sidegrade" and don't think they're different enough to be worth spending money on in your situation. I kept forgetting to turn it off when exporting projects and I didn't like the latency it introduced so it wasn't for me. That 15-45hz region is virtually non-existent Which was super important to me because I do bass music.
